This is Berla's [Crockett, `59] new e-mail address. I wish I could use my first name as an e-mail address. Now all I have to do is get her to look at it once in a while. "I work on a computer every day at work, I don't want to work on one at home."
I am hoping that if some of you e-mail her she just might get into checking her own mail.

Yeah, there were some really great cars and then there were the girl cars - like, Joyce Coppersmith Steele's purple Plymouth with the really high fins and Roxy Cook Goodwin's `49 Chevy that her dad made her take completely apart and then put back together between her 15th and 16th birthdays - it had to run well enough when she was done that she could take her driver's test in it, and it did!

To Jean Bishop Ryckman.
I am very sorry that I forgot about LaBamba. I am a little upset with my sister, Chris though. I thought that she, being the oldest, would have told me all about her Dragging her Gut, in your 46 Ford. I don't recall her ever talking about that. It must have been a secret with just the girls.
As I had written last time, I said I had a 48 Buick Road Master. It also would hold at least 8 or 9 guys to go to buck nite at the Drive-In.
I drove over to Jerry Penny's house one night, to visit. While I was in the house, Jerry snuck out to my car, climbed underneath it and poked holes in the muffler, with his bayonet. He thought it would sound better. It kind of had a loud roar to it after that. We also had heard from somebody that if you turn the key off and back on that there would be a loud explosion. Man, were they ever right. The best place to do this was coming across, the old bridge, and down the hill into Pasco. Turn the key off, wait 5 seconds, turn the key back on, and there would be a very loud BOOM. There would also be a large flame that would light up the bridge. A flame large enough to turn the street lights off, because they thought it was daylight. And we called this Fun.

  Ain't no more Like "64"

To Jean Bishop Ryckman and Larry Thomas:
I remember a lot of neat cars in Pasco when we were growing up. I thought the neatest was a little T-bucket made and owned by Don Story. Mike Head owned a 1940 Ford coupe (at least I think that was a Ford), Gary Wallis had a nice 55 Chev, and I think Val Vail also had a 55 Chev. Jenny Cramer had a 1949 Chev 4 door that seemed to always be full of Girls. My wife of 37 years, Vicki Jones (63), was one of those -- maybe that is why I always notice. It seemed to me Mike Dronen always had some nice 57 Chev cars also. Terry Phillips' 1948 Buick Roadmaster was also one to put a lot of people in. Lois Benson Kincaid's (64) mom had a 1950 Studabaker which was fun to drive. Great summer nights.

Hi to Jan Cruzen!
Well, I thought we had placed first in that tournament, but I figure it is better to be corrected "up" than "down." I had always figured that we were a girl's sport, but in looking in my yearbook, I don't see an official picture. Too bad!

To LarryThomas,
I would love to see your car some time. Maybe you can drive it to the next reunion. Hi back  :)

It is always good to read up and see what everyone is doing. I am such a long way from the States that this is a good contact point for me.
I am retired now on a disability pension and we are about to move into a new unit in a nice little retirement village near Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
Such a lot of work selling a house (cleaning and sorting and the like). But it will be over soon (hopefully). We have a good location for lake views and hope it doesn't take too long to get a buyer.

  Best wishes to all.

Sincerely,

To: Sheri Knight McKinstry,
Yes, John was the stud muffin of 65! But 38 years later, is he still a Stud Muffin??? We all want to know!

To: Karyn Turya Rehfeld,
Is Paula Turya your sister? And if so, what is that woman up to? I don't believe I have ever seen her at a class reunion?

To: Jan Cruzen Francis (on the left),
Are you still going to write back to me?????

To Everyone:
My best car memories are of Patty O'Leary Cruzen's parents' car. If I remember correctly, it was a big `58 GM station wagon. Patty's parents were great about letting her use the family car, and of course we could pile all the girls in for a big night out at the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Hall (am I remembering that name correctly?) to see Paul Revere and The Raiders do Louie Louie! Of course then we had to go cruising down Court Street through the A&W and through Dog N Suds, then through town, over the bridge to Zip's and back again.
I also remember a night that I spent with Barbara Gonzales. We "borrowed" the keys to her parents car and went for a little joy ride. Neither of us had a driver's license. At some point during that joy ride, I backed the car into a post, and put a dent in the rear bumper. We went back to Barbara's house, parked the car, put the keys back, went to bed and never said a word. Next morning, her parents went to Mass. When they came home from Mass they were talking about how someone could back into their car in the Church parking lot and not acknowledge the damage! We never fessed up to being the perpetrators! Until now!

To: Dan Birks,
Loved your story about the For Sale signs. Do you remember in `64 or `65, the guys carrying a VW Bug into the PHS Foyer? Mr. Gregson was none too happy about that one.

The great thing about all these stories is that we had fun, and for most part, all the pranks were harmless.

Best Wishes to Everyone,

Sorry Le'Ann, I meant to accept your challenge to all the 67'ers, but well . . .  hey I'm old, ya know?

To Sheri:
. . just wanted to say that this year at school has been a real eye opener! 21 yrs teaching middle schoolers (junior highers in our days) has taken a toll on my view on life. But, as we chatted about at the reunion, my new assignment (gracias por la budget cuts!) as a new teacher of the elementary level (3-5) has been a rejuvenation of my spirit. The little ones are so innocent in comparison & recharge the ol batteries. Life is "gooder" than when we talked . . . .

To Karen:
. . Thanks for a good time at your pool last summer . . . Hmmm . . let's see what kind of talk that generates, huh?

To Paul:
. . I continue to appreciate the way the internet allows all of us to find/reconnect with those people that affected our lives. Your efforts & techie knowledge are beyond the norm . . thanks!!

Tovia,
Thanks for the flashback. I recall the girls' basketball team of 1978. I was a sophomore that year. It was pretty exciting to see the girls' team do so well. I remember the "twin terrors" - you and your sister Tammy. As much as I hate to say it, whether it's then or now, it seems to me that girls/womens sports don't seem to get the recognition that I feel they deserve. But, some of us do remember...
