To Paul Case:
It was probably the Palm Tavern located next to Engs restaurant. I spent some "interesting" evenings there playing in the band many years ago.

  Okay Paul,
Mike Burke will probably ring in on this. I think he mentioned The Pasco Tavern once in a communiqué. Kind of where the Mission is now? Guess the Pasco Tavern wasn't as infamous. And, I believe The Dew Drop Inn was in East Pasco. My how these names ring the old bells!

Someone mentioned the "Cloverleaf" tavern; I think its name is the Shamrock. After my Dad passed away, they held a rather touching memorial for him there, retiring the bar stool that he used to fall off of on most Saturday nights.

Dave Whitmire mentioned the Homecoming game of 1961. I remember how huge those guys like Ron Richwine, Richard Jimmerson, Joe Luft and Dave Whitmire looked THEN. I also remember that, after the Homecoming game, Mr. Till ragged on us in PE class because, although we had a so-so season, everything was fine because we won the Homecoming game. He wasn't happy about that perception. He chewed on us for about ten minutes, saying that he expected more of us to turn out for football the next year. I thought, sure, if I had taken my 90-pound frame to a football tryout, half the varsity would have laughed themselves to death.

I did enjoy band, and the road trips we were able to take to such places as Wentachee and Cheney. About fifteen years ago, I was in Wenatchee for the Apple Blossom Festival, and saw the Pasco High School band perform. They were incredible.

The school parking lot had some very nice rides, as I remember. Pat Fleming had a 55 Studebaker that screamed, Lonnie Fricke had an immaculate 55 Chev with two deuces poking their air cleaners through the cut-out car hood, Jim Jorgenson with his "Blue Goose", and I think Bill Dendurant had a Chev that had a drawing of an owl with a top hat and cane. Underneath the picture was the word, "Gent". Arlan Dabling had a 49 Ford, and Mrs. Holman, the bookkeeping teacher, had a really neat Karmann Ghia. It seemed like every car in the lot was so cool; they either had spinners or baby moon hubcaps or that killer stance with the front bumper down low and the back end up high. I swear some had rakes so radical you could bash your head on the dash if the car was standing still! I also remember a nice 36 Ford that someone had. That reminds me - time to change the oil in the Taurus.

Re: Tavern near the underpass:
I drove by there yesterday - nothing like what I remembered, combination of buildings changed and FMS. But it was on Tacoma Ave., right across the street from the old train station. I didn't remember the train station at all. It was sort of a mini-trip down memory lane.
Went by another place that jogged a memory - does anyone remember a place down that direction (on Columbia Ave a block south of Lewis St) called the Side Track that opened in the early 70s? Beer, dancing, etc., but it didn't last long. Tom Hill (RIP), owner of Hill's on the Mall and later Hill's Restaurant, opened it.
